LK Advani Admitted to Delhi Apollo For Routine Follow Up

Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani has been admitted to Apollo Hospital in Delhi, according to a PTI report. The 96-year-old statesman, who was born in undivided India, is said to be in stable condition.

“LK Advani is under the care of Dr. Vinit Suri at Apollo Hospital for a routine follow-up check-up. He is doing well and is expected to be discharged soon,” said Dr. Vinit Suri of Apollo Hospitals in Delhi.

Advani’s recent hospitalization comes after a similar visit in early July, when he was also observed at the same facility before being discharged. During that time, he was under the care of Dr. Vinit Suri, a senior consultant in the neurology department.

In late June, Advani was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for treatment in the urology department. He was discharged the following afternoon, on June 27. The specifics of his ailment have not been disclosed.

Recently, Advani was honored with the Bharat Ratna by President Droupadi Murmu on March 30, 2024.

Born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi (now in Pakistan), Advani joined the RSS as a Swayamsevak in 1942. He served as the BJP National President from 1986 to 1990, again from 1993 to 1998, and from 2004 to 2005. Advani has held the position of party president longer than anyone else since its founding in 1980.

Throughout his nearly three-decade-long parliamentary career, Advani served first as Home Minister and later as Deputy Prime Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet (1999-2004).
