Delhi Braces For Rain And Fog; Trains Delayed Due To Weather

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain in Delhi on January 31 and February 1 as a second western disturbance approaches the plains. The rain spells come amid dense fog that has enveloped north India over the past few days.

The IMD warned that very dense fog and severe cold days are likely in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar over the next two days before gradual improvement. Visibility levels across various cities in the region have dropped below 500 meters.

Additionally, the department predicted heavy rain or snowfall in Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand in the coming days. Cold wave conditions are also expected to continue in areas of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The inclement weather has resulted in delays and cancellations of trains at the New Delhi Railway Station. The Hirakund Express was canceled, while the Kalka Shatabdi Express and other trains were running behind schedule by over 10 hours today.

Officials say minimum temperatures will likely rise by 2-5 degrees Celsius over parts of northwest, east, and west India over the next 3-5 days providing some respite from the cold wave. But dense fog remains a concern that could affect normal life and disrupt transport services.

The IMD continues to monitor the weather system closely and has advised state administrations to take necessary precautions. Commuters also have been asked to check for the latest updates to avoid inconveniences.
