Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 511 Pramod Mahajan Grameen Kaushalya Vikas Kendras in Maharashtra through a virtual event. These centers are spread across 34 rural districts of the state. It aims to provide skill development training programs in various sectors. And, later create employment opportunities for rural youth.

Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the increasing global demand for skilled Indian youth. He cited a study revealing that 16 countries have plans to employ approximately 4 million skilled Indian professionals. The newly established Skill Centers in Maharashtra will offer training in different areas. Additionally, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of imparting soft skills, such as basic foreign language proficiency and the use of AI tools for language interpretation.

A History of Neglected Skill Development

Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of acquiring new skills to enhance India’s manufacturing industry, emphasizing the need for high-quality, defect-free products.
In the context of agriculture, Prime Minister Modi advocated for skills in balanced irrigation, agri-product processing, packaging, branding, and connecting people with the online world. Prime Minister Modi concluded by recognizing the dignity of labor and the importance of skilled work.
