Mumbai on Cyclone Tej Alert: IMD Issues Warning of Possible Cyclonic Storm in Arabian Sea

Mumbai on Cyclone Tej Alert: IMD Forecasts Weather Changes

Mumbai residents have been put on high alert for Cyclone. This is as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning regarding a potential cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea. The city of Mumbai in Maharashtra may soon witness significant weather changes. This is due to this impending cyclonic development.

Low-Pressure Area in the Arabian Sea

The IMD’s update indicates the likely formation of a low-pressure area. This is over the southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea within the next 48 hours. While the probability of this system intensifying into a full-blown cyclonic storm remains relatively low. It’s presence demands vigilance.

Cyclone Season in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea

This announcement comes as no surprise to weather experts, as the period between October and December is known for favorable conditions for cyclone formation in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. The warmer ocean temperatures during these months provide an ideal environment for cyclonic systems to develop.

Cyclone Naming: Meet Tej

The storm will be bestowed with the name “Tej,” adhering to the established nomenclature guidelines for cyclones in the Indian Ocean region.

Cyclones in the Arabian Sea often chart unpredictable tracks and timelines, as noted by experts at Skymet Weather. While their typical route carries them towards Somalia, the Gulf of Aden, Yemen, and Oman once they are situated over the central parts of the Arabian Sea, occasional deviations have seen these cyclones redirecting towards the Gujarat and Pakistan coastlines.

Weather Records in Mumbai

On a different note, Mumbai recently experienced a record-breaking weather event. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4 degrees Celsius, marking the highest temperature reading for the month of October this year. This remarkable temperature increase was observed at the Santacruz observatory of the IMD, which actively monitors temperature and various other weather parameters for the suburbs of Mumbai. In parallel, the Colaba observatory, responsible for tracking weather metrics in the island city, reported a maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius.
