‘Very Big’ Oil and Gas Gift From Iran, Says Trump Amid Uncertain Talks

US President Donald Trump made a puzzling remark on Tuesday regarding potential engagement with Iran, saying that a “very big present worth a tremendous amount of money” had been received from the country, even as the two nations remain in conflict.

His statement came a day after he announced a five-day pause in US strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure, citing what he described as productive discussions. However, his comments have added to the uncertainty surrounding the situation, especially as Iran has denied any form of direct or indirect communication with Washington.

Trump’s assertion that talks are progressing has raised further questions about the nature of these discussions, as no clear details have emerged about who is involved or what terms are being considered. Iranian officials have maintained that there are no negotiations underway and have reiterated their position of continuing the fight until what they call complete victory.

At the same time, countries such as Pakistan, Egypt, and several Gulf nations are reportedly exploring diplomatic efforts to ease tensions, though these initiatives appear to be in early stages. Israel has indicated that it will continue its military operations.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said he does not fully trust anyone involved but hinted at receiving what he described as a significant “gift.” He said the development suggested that the United States may be engaging with the right people, although he did not reveal specific details.

When asked to elaborate, Trump said the matter was related to oil and gas but declined to provide further information. He described it as a meaningful gesture that, in his view, reflected positively on the ongoing situation.

Despite the pause in strikes, reports suggest that US military activity in the region is increasing. US Marines are believed to be moving towards the Middle East, fuelling speculation about possible ground operations. According to reports, the Pentagon is also planning to deploy a brigade combat team from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division to support operations.

Separately, it is understood that the Trump administration has put forward a ceasefire proposal to Iran. Reports indicate that the plan includes multiple points and was conveyed through intermediaries, with Pakistan offering to facilitate renewed talks between the two sides.

Further reports suggest that at least 1,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division may be deployed to the region in the coming days, signalling continued military preparedness even as diplomatic efforts are being explored.
