Major Fire Breaks Out at Delhi’s Brahmaputra Apartments Housing Rajya Sabha MPs

A massive fire erupted at the multi-storey Brahmaputra Apartments on BD Marg in Delhi on Saturday, prompting emergency response as the building houses several Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament.

Incident Details

The fire broke out on one of the upper floors of the complex, located approximately 200 meters from Parliament. The blaze triggered panic among residents as flames spread through the building. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Multiple fire engines were dispatched to the scene to control the situation. The Brahmaputra Apartments serves as official residence for Members of Parliament and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020.

Response Concerns

Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale raised concerns on social media platform X about delayed emergency response: “HUGE FIRE at Brahmaputra Apartments at BD Marg in Delhi. All residents are Rajya Sabha MPs. The building is 200 meters from Parliament. NO FIRE BRIGADE SINCE 30 mins. The fire is still burning & RISING. Fire engines are missing despite repeated calls. Have some shame Delhi Government.”

Building Significance

The Brahmaputra Apartments complex represents one of several official residential facilities allocated to parliamentarians in the capital’s central area. Its proximity to Parliament—merely 200 meters away—places it within the high-security zone of India’s political nerve center.

Ongoing Situation

Details about evacuations, injuries, or the extent of damage were not immediately available. Fire department officials have not yet issued statements regarding the number of engines deployed, response time, or fire suppression progress.

Safety Questions

The incident raises questions about fire safety protocols and emergency response mechanisms for high-profile government residential complexes, particularly those housing elected representatives.

The reported delay in fire brigade arrival, if confirmed, would represent a serious lapse in emergency services for a facility located in the capital’s most protected area.

Investigation Pending

Authorities are expected to investigate both the fire’s cause and the emergency response timeline. The incident’s proximity to Parliament and involvement of MPs’ residences will likely prompt heightened scrutiny of safety standards and disaster management procedures at official government accommodations.

Further updates on casualties, damage assessment, and official response are awaited as firefighting operations continue.
