A 29-year-old software professional from Telangana’s Mahabubnagar district was fatally shot by Santa Clara Police in California on September 3, following what authorities described as a violent domestic dispute with his roommate.

Mohammed Nizamuddin, who had completed his Master’s degree in the United States before working as a software professional, was killed during a police response to a reported altercation. His father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, learned of the death through one of his son’s friends and was only informed of the shooting on Thursday morning.

According to the family, the conflict with the roommate began over a minor issue, though exact circumstances leading to the fatal encounter remain unclear.

Santa Clara Police reported responding to the incident at approximately 6:18 AM on September 3, where officers encountered Nizamuddin allegedly armed with a knife. He was transported to a hospital but later pronounced dead, while the roommate was hospitalized and treated for injuries.
Police Chief Cory Morgan stated that the roommate dispute had escalated to violence before officers arrived. “Based on our preliminary investigation, we believe the officer’s actions prevented further harm and clearly saved at least one life,” Morgan said. Officers claimed Nizamuddin was holding a knife and threatening to attack again when they forced entry into the residence.

Two knives were recovered from the scene, according to police reports.
Family Seeks Indian Government Intervention
In a letter to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Hasnuddin requested assistance in repatriating his son’s body to Mahabubnagar. “I do not know the actual reasons why police shot him dead,” he wrote, seeking urgent help from Indian officials in Washington and San Francisco.
Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson of the Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT), shared the family’s appeal with media and urged government intervention in the case.
