Meta Connect 2025: Company Unveils Next-Generation Smart Glasses and AI Initiatives

Meta Connect 2025: Meta’s flagship developer conference, Meta Connect 2025, commenced on September 17 at the company’s Menlo Park, California headquarters, marking a pivotal moment for the tech giant’s push into artificial intelligence, smart glasses, and immersive computing technologies.

Keynote Highlights and Global Access in Meta Connect 2025

CEO Mark Zuckerberg delivered the main keynote at 5 PM PT (5:30 AM IST on September 18), with the two-day event streaming globally via Meta’s website and Facebook. The presentation focused on unveiling next-generation smart glasses, AI advancements, and the company’s broader metaverse vision, with additional developer sessions scheduled for September 18.

Hypernova Smart Glasses Launch

The conference’s centrepiece was the anticipated launch of Meta’s Hypernova smart glasses, also referenced as Meta Celeste in some reports. These advanced wearables feature AR waveguide displays, integrated cameras and microphones, plus an onboard AI assistant. A gesture-controlled wristband, previously showcased as a technology preview at last year’s event, has been integrated into the consumer-ready model.

A briefly available Meta YouTube video revealed heads-up display capabilities and hand gesture controls, while CNBC reported the wristband could serve as a central navigation accessory.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 Series

Alongside Hypernova, Meta announced the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 smart glasses, featuring new design options, extended battery performance, and upgraded Meta AI capabilities. Following Meta’s earlier collaboration with Oakley for AI-powered athletic glasses, the Ray-Ban series targets mainstream consumers, strengthening Meta’s position in the competitive smart eyewear market.

AI Development Focus

The Meta Connect 2025conference marks the first since establishing Meta Superintelligence Labs, led by former Scale AI chief Alexandr Wang. While operational details remain limited, the division is expected to spearhead Meta’s AI ambitions and compete directly with Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI in advanced AI systems development.

Developer Sessions and Accessibility

Day two featured technical sessions exploring virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and application development tools. These sessions were accessible through Meta Quest headsets in Horizon and the Meta for Developers platform.

Market Availability

Meta has not announced pricing or availability details for the new products, with Indian market access timelines remaining unclear. Industry observers anticipate these launches will significantly impact the evolving smart wearables landscape.
