Data from a Statista report based on International Labour Organisation findings reveals that average gross hourly wages in India range from approximately $1 to $1.60. Consequently, an average Indian worker must work between 625 to 1,000 hours to afford the base iPhone 17—equivalent to 16 to 25 weeks of full-time employment without any other expenditures.
This contrasts dramatically with the United States, where the same device costs around $857 after tax, requiring just 21 hours of average-wage work. European countries like Portugal and Hungary, despite higher costs of living, require significantly fewer work hours due to superior wage levels.

According to comparative data, Indian workers need 967 hours to afford an iPhone 17, making it one of the least accessible markets globally. Vietnam follows closely at 598 hours, while Turkey requires 461 hours and Brazil 409 hours. Mexico, at 352 hours, demonstrates relatively better affordability within emerging markets.
Switzerland and the United States offer the most favorable iPhone affordability ratios in terms of required work hours, while Brazil, Turkey, India, and Vietnam rank among the most challenging markets for average workers.
