Livestock Rescue Strengthened With 481 Veterinary Groups In Punjab Flood Zones

Officials stated that around 2.52 lakh animals and nearly 5.88 lakh poultry birds have been affected by the floods.

Animal Husbandry Minister Khudian informed that 481 veterinary units are working in the field to provide medical treatment and distribute medicines to impacted livestock. So far, 22,534 animals have received care. In addition, control rooms are functioning round the clock at the state headquarters with contact number 0172 5086064 as well as in district offices to manage relief operations and respond to emergencies. He appealed to citizens to extend cooperation and immediately report cases of animal distress to these helplines.

The department in coordination with district administrations and social organisations has supplied more than 12,170 quintals of feed along with 5,090.35 quintals of green fodder, dry fodder and silage to support livestock in flood hit regions.

Principal Secretary of Animal Husbandry Rahul Bhandari confirmed that Rs 31.50 lakh has been sanctioned for animal treatment in the affected districts. He directed officials to ensure timely response to distress calls, provide essential medical attention and supplies, and work jointly with district authorities and voluntary groups for effective relief implementation.
