Rakesh Roshan Opens Up on Hrithik Roshan’s Stammering Struggles

Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan recently spoke about his son, actor Hrithik Roshan, and his struggles with stammering. In an interview with news agency ANI, Rakesh recalled an incident where Hrithik found it difficult to say “thank you, Dubai” at an event. He also shared how Hrithik once locked himself inside a bathroom due to his speech difficulties.

Discussing his son’s challenge, Rakesh said, “I used to feel bad because he had so much to say. He is highly educated and intelligent, yet his stammering held him back. I remember an event in Dubai where he simply wanted to say ‘thank you, Dubai,’ but he kept getting stuck on the letter ‘D…’”

Hrithik’s Dedication to Overcoming Stammering

Rakesh further revealed, “He once locked himself in a bathroom just to memorize those two sentences—‘thank you, Dubai.’ It was heartbreaking to see such a progressive individual held back by this issue. But he worked incredibly hard to overcome it. Every morning, he would spend an hour reading the newspaper in English, Hindi, and Urdu. And now, for the last 10 to 14 years, he hasn’t stammered.”

Hrithik has previously opened up about his speech impediment, recalling how difficult it was during his school days.

The father-son duo has collaborated on several successful films, including Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), Koi… Mil Gaya (2003), and the Krrish film series. Most recently, Netflix released the docu-series The Roshans, featuring Hrithik, Rakesh, and music composer Rajesh Roshan. Directed by Shashi Ranjan, the series explores the journey of three generations in the film industry, focusing on the legacy of the late Roshan Lal Nagrath and his sons.

Hrithik’s Upcoming Project

Hrithik Roshan will next be seen in War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji. The highly anticipated action film, also starring Jr NTR, is set for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14.
