Redmi A4 5G: 5G with a Catch – Airtel users Excluded, Here’s why

Xiaomi’s Redmi has launched the A4 5G, a budget smartphone that promises 5G connectivity at an unprecedented price point, but with a critical caveat that could impact potential buyers’ purchasing decisions.

Xiaomi launches Redmi A4 5G  – Here’s its specifications

Priced competitively at Rs. 8,499 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB model and Rs. 9,499 for the 128GB variant, the Redmi A4 5G enters the market as one of India’s most affordable 5G-enabled smartphones. However, network compatibility emerges as a significant consideration for consumers.

The device supports only Standalone (SA) 5G networks, which directly impacts its usability across different telecom networks. Jio users can rejoice, as the phone fully supports their SA 5G infrastructure. Airtel customers, conversely, will find themselves restricted to 4G services due to the carrier’s Non-Standalone (NSA) 5G technology.

“The phone is built to support SA 5G networks, which limits its compatibility with certain telecom operators,” explained a Redmi spokesperson.

What chipset is been used in Redmi A4 5G?

Technically, the smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset, offering more than just network connectivity. It boasts a 6.88-inch HD+ LCD screen with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, running on Android 14-based HyperOS.

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the 50-megapixel dual rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The device also promises robust battery performance with its 5,160mAh battery and 18W charging support.

For consumers navigating the complex 5G ecosystem, the Redmi A4 5G represents both an opportunity and a challenge. While it offers an entry point to 5G technology at an unprecedented price, potential buyers must carefully assess their network compatibility.

Is Redmi A4 5G compatible with Airtel?

The smartphone goes on sale on November 27, presenting budget-conscious consumers with a potentially attractive option. However, Airtel users are advised to thoroughly investigate network compatibility before making a purchase.

In the rapidly evolving smartphone market, the Redmi A4 5G stands as a testament to the increasing accessibility of advanced mobile technology, albeit with network-specific limitations.
