Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Opens in January 2025, Reducing travel to 2.5 hours

In a significant infrastructure milestone, the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is poised to transform regional connectivity, promising to dramatically reduce travel time and enhance transportation efficiency when it opens in January 2025.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway to start in January 2025

Spanning 212 kilometres, the six-lane Greenfield Access Controlled Expressway represents a substantial investment of Rs 12,000 crore by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The project will slash travel duration from an arduous 6.5 hours to a mere 2.5 hours, offering unprecedented convenience for commuters, tourists, and freight transporters.

The expressway’s design reflects a remarkable commitment to both human and environmental considerations. Innovative features include a 340-metre-long three-lane tunnel at Datkali, Dehradun, constructed at Rs 1,995 crore, and an array of wildlife protection measures.

Watch the video here:

“Many special provisions have been made in the construction of the entire corridor,” MoRTH noted. These provisions include a 12-km elevated road, six animal underpasses, two elephant underpasses, two major bridges, and 13 minor bridges, ensuring safe wildlife passage.

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway’s comprehensive infrastructure extends beyond transportation and conservation. It encompasses:

– 113 various vehicular underpasses

– 5 Road Over Bridges (ROBs)

– 4 major bridges

– 62 bus shelters

– 76 km service road

– 29 km elevated road

– 16 entry-exit points

What route to take to travel on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway?

Strategically routed from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Akshardham, traversing through Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas, Baghpat, Shamli, Saharanpur, and culminating in Dehradun, the project promises to mitigate regional migration by improving accessibility.

As January 2025 approaches, the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway stands as a testament to India’s evolving infrastructure landscape, blending technological advancement with ecological sensitivity.
