Haryana gets new CM: Nayab Singh Saini takes oath today, PM Modi present at event

Nayab Singh Saini was sworn in as Haryana’s Chief Minister for a second term on Thursday, in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders.

The event, held at Panchkula’s Dussehra Ground, saw Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya administering the oath of office and secrecy to Saini and his council of ministers.

High-profile attendees included Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari, along with chief ministers from BJP-ruled states. In a show of party unity, Saini entered the stage alongside his predecessor and mentor, Manohar Lal Khattar.

Senior leader Anil Vij, previously rumoured to be a contender for the Chief Minister position, was sworn in as a cabinet minister.

Who is Nayab Singh Saini?

Saini, a 54-year-old Dalit leader, led the BJP to a decisive victory in the recent Haryana Assembly elections, securing 48 seats in the 90-member house. This win marked the party’s third consecutive term in the state, defying exit poll predictions.

After winning the Ladwa seat in Kurukshetra district, Saini was unanimously elected as the BJP’s legislature party leader in Haryana. He subsequently met with Governor Bandaru Dattatreya to stake his claim to form the new government.

This transition in leadership comes as the BJP solidifies its position in Haryana, with Saini’s appointment reflecting the party’s strategic decisions ahead of future electoral challenges.
