CM Nitish Kumar Declares ₹1,000 Monthly Benefit Scheme For Unemployed Graduates

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday declared that his government will now extend financial support of ₹1,000 per month to unemployed graduates for a period of two years. The assistance will be offered under the Mukhyamantri Nishchay Swayam Sahayta Bhatta Yojana, a scheme that was earlier restricted to intermediate-pass youth.

Sharing the announcement on X, the Chief Minister wrote, “I am pleased to inform that under the state government’s seven resolves programme, the previously operated ‘Mukhyamantri Nishchay Swayam Sahayta Bhatta Yojana’ has now been expanded.” He further added, “Under this, the benefit of the Self-Help Allowance Scheme, which was previously being provided to intermediate-passed youth, has now been extended to unemployed graduate youth who have passed in arts, science, and commerce.”

Expanding on eligibility, Kumar clarified, “Graduate-passed youth in the 20-25 age group who are not pursuing any studies anywhere, are striving for jobs/employment, do not have any self-employment, or have not obtained government, private, or non-government employment, will also be paid the Chief Minister’s Resolves Self-Help Allowance at the rate of ₹1,000 per month for a maximum of two years.”

The Chief Minister urged students to utilise this allowance to improve their prospects. “I hope that the youth will use this assistance allowance to obtain necessary training and prepare for competitive examinations so that their future can be secured,” he wrote.

Nitish Kumar reminded citizens that employment has been a key focus since his government was first formed in November 2005. “Since the formation of the new government in November 2005, providing government jobs and employment to more and more youth and empowering and enabling them has been our top priority,” he said.

He also pointed to the government’s long-term vision for employment in the state. “You are aware that a target has been set to provide government jobs and employment to one crore youth in the next five years. In the coming days, a large number of new jobs and employment opportunities will be created in the government and private sectors. To achieve this set target, youth are being provided skill development training so that they can obtain jobs/employment,” Kumar explained.

Looking ahead to the Assembly elections later this year, the Chief Minister said the initiative reflects his government’s larger goal. According to him, the objective is to ensure that young people in Bihar get access to maximum employment opportunities, become self-reliant and skilled, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the state as well as the nation.
