AAP Leaders And MLAs Commit One Month Salary Towards Punjab Flood Relief Efforts

In flood-ravaged Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has called for unity and compassion, announcing that the Aam Aadmi Party’s entire leadership will step forward with personal contributions. Every MLA, along with the Cabinet and the Chief Minister himself, will donate one month’s salary to strengthen relief operations.

Sharing his thoughts on X, Mann reminded citizens that the situation demands collective effort. “No one has control over nature’s fury, but together, we must support each other in this challenging time,” he wrote.

The Chief Minister stressed that this decision is more than symbolic—it is meant to provide direct support to families grappling with the losses caused by the floods. “I, along with all our ministers and MLAs, am donating one month’s salary to assist those affected by the floods and to support ongoing relief efforts. Our government and administration are standing with the people with full commitment and dedication,” Mann stated. He concluded his message with a heartfelt prayer: “We pray to God that the situation returns to normal soon.”

Even as the government mobilises resources, moments of deep human resilience and faith have emerged. In the village of Abdullapur in Hoshiarpur district, where the Beas river swallowed entire settlements, AAP MLA Jasvir Singh Raja Gill from Urmur constituency set an extraordinary example. Following Sikh traditions, he ensured that the sacred saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was respectfully and safely carried to a secure location.

Before the relocation, Raja Gill joined the sangat in an ardaas, seeking blessings for the safety and well-being of the community. Videos of the emotional act quickly spread across social media, resonating deeply with people across Punjab. For many, the gesture symbolised that even in the darkest moments of a natural calamity, religious sanctity remains non-negotiable. It also reflected a powerful message from the party’s MLAs—that both faith and the lives of people must be protected with equal devotion.

Support has also begun to arrive from beyond Punjab’s borders. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has written to Mann, offering assistance and cooperation at this difficult time. Meanwhile, the state’s health machinery has shifted into high alert. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh convened a review meeting with senior doctors, principals of medical colleges, and representatives from the IMA, Red Cross, and chemist associations. The focus was on emergency response and ensuring that medical care reaches those in need without delay.

“The health and well-being of our citizens is the top priority of the Punjab Government,” Dr Singh affirmed. He instructed all civil surgeons to make sure government hospitals remain fully prepared to handle an influx of patients.

The Health Department has also circulated an advisory for flood-hit regions, urging residents to avoid direct contact with contaminated water, consume only safe drinking water, take preventive steps against mosquitoes, and seek urgent treatment for illnesses like diarrhoea, skin infections, or snake bites.
