He also noted that in the face of conflicts involving major powers, there is significant pressure on other nations to choose sides. For that, he commended India for choosing to prioritize its sovereign interests and maintain a balanced stance on the Russia-Ukraine issue. India’s rotational chance for the G20 Presidency is something Manmohan Singh is content for.

Manmohan Singh has refrained from offering advice to the current PM regarding handling complex diplomatic matters. It includes issues such as India’s relationship with China. There was some amount of disappointment as the Chinese President decided to not attend the G20 Summit.

However, he is hopeful that PM Modi will take the necessary steps and make sure to protect India’s territorial and sovereign integrity all while working to defuse the bilateral tensions between the two.

Conclusion

Thus, the praise from Manmohan Singh for India’s foreign policy showcases the importance of prudent decision-making that prioritizes national interests. He carefully highlighted the delicate balance between foreign and domestic politics.

Russia-Ukraine conflict and its relationship with China is going to be a significant aspect of foreign policy. India needs to navigate these challenges in the geopolitical field and commit itself to diplomacy, sovereignty, and peace to remain steadfast.
