Lal Quila Metro Station Remains Closed Wednesday Following Red Fort Blast

Red Fort Blast: Lal Quila Metro Station will remain closed Wednesday as a precautionary measure following Monday’s high-intensity blast near Red Fort that killed at least 10 people and injured 20 others.

Metro Closure

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation announced on X: “Due to security reasons, the Lal Quila Metro Station shall continue to remain closed on November 12. All other stations are functional as normal.”

The station remained shut for commuters Tuesday as well, following Monday evening’s explosion near the Red Fort. The closure extends security measures implemented immediately after the attack.

Business Impact amid Red Fort Blast

Nearby markets displayed a deserted appearance due to the tragedy and traffic restrictions, with shopkeepers expressing concern over significant business losses during the crucial festive season.

Bachoo Choudhury, a shopkeeper in Lajpat Rai Market, stated: “We work for two months. One day of work is equal to one month’s worth.”

He added: “We have enough stock to last two months. The rest of the year, we sit idle as there isn’t much work. How will tourists come now? Our business depends mostly on them. When tourists don’t come, we are already at a loss, and all our stock will go bad.”

Wholesale Market Concerns

Traders from Sadar Bazaar predicted business would remain affected for several weeks. A retailer explained: “For one month, traders will not come here. The wholesale market in Sadar Bazaar, which is India’s most famous market, along with Chandni Chowk, all come under the same umbrella. Traders come from faraway places to buy materials.”

Investigation Status

The blast investigation continues, with police examining CCTV footage and questioning 13 suspects. Four individuals were detained during overnight hotel raids in Central Delhi’s Paharganj and Daryaganj areas.

Dr. Umar Mohammad, member of a radical doctors group with links to Jaish-e-Mohammed, is at the investigation’s center. Authorities discovered he procured two additional cars beyond the Hyundai i20 used in the attack, believed to be part of the terror conspiracy.

Security Measures

The metro station closure reflects heightened security in the area as investigations progress. The incident has prompted extensive security reviews for public spaces near historical monuments and high-traffic areas across the capital.

The economic impact on traders coincides with the festive season, traditionally a crucial period for businesses in Old Delhi’s markets.
