On Monday, the Noida Police arrested Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Saurabh Meena in connection with the alleged suicide of a woman at his flat in Lotus Boulevard Society, Sector 100.
The incident was reported on Saturday evening at Tower-8 of Lotus Boulevard Society, where 37-year-old Shilpa Gautam was found hanging from the ceiling.
Meena, a 2016-batch IRS officer currently posted in Delhi, informed the police that Shilpa had locked herself in a room and hanged herself from a ceiling fan, according to a report by the Times of India. He claimed that the room’s door was opened by a security guard he had called after Shilpa had not responded for a long time.
Shilpa, who worked in human resources at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), had divorced her husband five years ago and was reportedly living with Saurabh Meena in the same flat.
Shilpa’s father, OP Gautam, filed a police complaint alleging that Saurabh Meena had killed Shilpa and staged it as a suicide. According to the Times of India, he claimed that Saurabh and Shilpa met three years ago on a dating app and that Saurabh had promised to marry Shilpa but failed to keep his promise, leading to frequent arguments between them.
The police have registered a case against Saurabh Meena under various IPC sections, and he has been sent to judicial custody. According to an NDTV report, Saurabh Meena countered the family’s claim, stating that he met Shilpa through a dating app three months ago, not three years ago.
The police are continuing their investigation and awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death. They are also analyzing data from both individuals’ mobile phones and CCTV footage from the society.
