Vijay’s ‘Leo’ Movie Breaks Records at Box Office Despite Second-Week Slump

Vijay’s ‘Leo’ Continues to Make Waves at the Box Office

The Tamil film “Leo,” directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring Thalapathy Vijay, has been setting new records at the box office. The movie has not only entered the coveted 500 crore club globally but also achieved the 300 crore milestone in India. However, despite its impressive start, “Leo” experienced a notable drop in its second week. On Sunday, it earned 16.55 crores, and early reports suggest it may collect 5 crores on Monday. This would bring the film’s total collection to 308.45 crores. According to market tracker Sacnilk, “Leo” is expected to have an overall 19 percent Tamil occupancy on Monday.

Impressive First Week Performance

In its first week, the action-packed thriller “Leo” managed to mint a remarkable 264 crores in India alone. It made a grand debut with 64.80 crores on its release day (October 19). The following days continued to see strong numbers, with 34.25 crores on the first Friday, 38.30 crores on the first Saturday, and 39.80 crores on the first Sunday.

“Leo” marks the second collaboration between director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Vijay, following their 2021 hit film “Master.” The film also features a star-studded cast, including Trisha Krishnan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Priya Anand.

Success in the Tamil Film Industry

“Leo” is part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s cinematic universe. It takes place after the events of “Karthi’s Kaithi” and “Kamal Haasan’s Vikram.” It has now become the third-highest-grossing Tamil film ever, following “Jailer” and “2.0,” both of which featured Rajinikanth. There is speculation about whether “Leo” can surpass Rajinikanth’s last release, “Jailer,” which earned 604 crores globally.

Positive Reviews and Unique Adaptation

The film received a review of three stars from the Indian Express, with praise for its unique adaptation of David Cronenberg’s “A History of Violence.” Unlike some Indian filmmakers who imitate without credit, “Leo” acknowledges its inspiration and adapts the storyline to fit Tamil and Indian aesthetics, creating a distinctive cinematic experience.
