Dharmendra Returns Home After 2-Week Hospital Stay, Hema Malini Says ‘It Has Not Been Easy’

Legendary actor Dharmendra, 89, has been discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after nearly two weeks of treatment for breathlessness, with his wife and BJP MP Hema Malini expressing relief while requesting continued prayers.

Hema Malini’s Reaction

In her first comments following the discharge, Hema Malini stated: “It has not been an easy time for me,” as quoted by Rediff. The 77-year-old actress described the period as tough for the entire family, including Dharmendra’s children from his first marriage to Prakash Kaur—actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.

“Dharamji’s health is a matter of great concern for us. His children are sleepless. I can’t afford to be weak, too many responsibilities. But yes, I am happy he’s back home,” she said.

“We are relieved he is out of hospital. He needs to be among the people he loves. Baaki toh sab upar wale ke haath mein hai (Everything else is in the hands of the Almighty). Please pray for us,” she added.

Dharmendra Hospital Treatment

Sources close to the family told the media on Monday that Dharmendra was on ventilator support at Breach Candy Hospital. Dr. Pratit Samdani, who treated the veteran actor, confirmed Wednesday that treatment “would continue at home.”

False Death Reports

A day before discharge, unconfirmed reports of the actor’s death went viral on social media. Hema Malini condemned the “irresponsible” reporting in an angry post:

“What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy.”

Daughter Esha Deol also addressed the misinformation, stating on social media: “The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy.”

Upcoming Project

Dharmendra will next appear in “Ikkis” alongside Agastya Nanda, Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson, in the lead role. The film is scheduled for December 25 release.

The actor’s discharge brings relief to fans and industry colleagues who have stood by the family during this difficult period.
