The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to celebrate India’s T20 World Cup victory in grand fashion. The board announced a massive cash reward of ₹131 crore for Suryakumar Yadav and his team after their historic triumph in Ahmedabad two nights ago. It is the largest prize ever announced in Indian cricket and surpasses the ₹125 crore reward given to Rohit Sharma and his team after winning the T20 World Cup two years ago in Barbados. India’s Champions Trophy winning team had earlier received ₹58 crore, while last year’s Women’s World Cup winning team was awarded ₹51 crore.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a cash reward of ₹131 crore for Team India following their triumphant campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026,” the board said in a statement.

“India lifted the prestigious trophy after defeating New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this victory, India successfully defended the title and became the first team in the history of the tournament to retain the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The win also made India the first team to claim the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup three times, strengthening their position among the most successful teams in the format.

The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future.”

India builds momentum during the tournament

India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final to secure their third T20 World Cup title. With the victory, Suryakumar Yadav joined an elite list of captains including Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur who have led India to World Cup glory. The win also made India the only team to successfully defend a T20 World Cup title and claim it on home soil.

India delivered a near flawless campaign in the tournament, losing only one match to South Africa in the Super 8 stage by 76 runs.

That defeat, however, appeared to strengthen the team’s resolve. India bounced back strongly, defeating the West Indies in a must win clash before edging past England in a tense semifinal. The final proved far more comfortable, with India posting a massive 255 for 5 before bowling New Zealand out for 159.
