The Congress on Wednesday strongly criticised the BJP led central government over a notice issued by the estate department directing the party to vacate its office at 24 Akbar Road by March 28. Lok Sabha MP Imran Masood alleged that the move is an attempt to pressure and silence the party.

Masood said the government is trying to intimidate Congress but such tactics will not succeed. He questioned whether similar action has been taken against BJP offices at Ashok Road or Pant Marg. He also suggested that the government is attempting to divert attention from larger issues, including the situation involving Iran.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari also criticised the Centre, calling the move unfortunate and questioning its democratic intent. He said the party will respond after reviewing the notice and holding internal discussions.

The Akbar Road office has been the Congress headquarters for nearly five decades. Although the party inaugurated its new office, Indira Bhavan at Kotla Marg, last year, the old premises have not yet been vacated.
