The Aam Aadmi Party received a significant political fillip in Punjab as Sardar Amarjeet Singh Kokri Kalan, formerly the State Financial Secretary of the BJP’s SC Wing, officially joined the party. Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema inducted him into the organisation on behalf of state party chief Aman Arora and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Addressing the gathering, Cheema noted that Amarjeet Singh has long been actively engaged in public life in the Nihal Singh Wala area and said his decision to join AAP reflects increasing confidence among people in the work carried out by the Mann government.

Cheema stated that Amarjeet Singh chose to part ways with the BJP after growing dissatisfied with what he described as its anti-public policies. He said the leader had been particularly influenced by AAP’s governance initiatives in Punjab, including the provision of 300 units of free electricity and the health insurance scheme worth ten lakh rupees, which he said had brought tangible relief to ordinary households. “Today, Punjab has only one party that holds the hand of the common man, stands with him, and delivers on the ground, and that party is the Aam Aadmi Party,” Cheema said.

He added that Amarjeet Singh was accompanied by several supporters such as sarpanches, panches and a nambardar, who also joined AAP under the leadership of Manjeet Singh Bilaspur. Welcoming them, Cheema assured that the new entrants would receive respect and meaningful roles within the party.

Highlighting Amarjeet Singh’s background, the minister said he had earlier served the country in the armed forces and later remained active in social and political work. According to Cheema, the arrival of committed and experienced individuals like him signals that Punjab is steadily moving toward a politics centred on performance, integrity and public welfare.

He further stated that the Mann government has consistently focused on the upliftment of all sections of society, especially Dalits, farmers, labourers, youth and economically weaker groups, and reaffirmed that AAP remains dedicated to ensuring dignity, opportunities and essential facilities for every citizen.
