A terrorist linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed during a joint counterterrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday, police said. The encounter took place in the Chanpora area of the district.
While officials did not immediately reveal the identity of the slain militant or provide additional details about the operation, sources told HT that the terrorist was identified as Zakir Gania, an operative of the Pakistan-based outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The operation was jointly carried out by the Shopian Special Operations Group (SOG), the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), officials said.
Confirming the development, Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a post on X, “One Lashkar terrorist neutralised by SOG Shopian, in a joint operation along with RR and CRPF.”
The police also issued a strong warning to militants active in the region, stating, “You can run, but you can’t hide!”
