Tension erupted in Mumbai’s Mira Road area after a dispute over goats allegedly being kept inside a residential complex ahead of Eid al-Adha celebrations led to clashes between two groups.

According to visuals circulated by ANI, protests were held outside the Poonam Cluster 1 apartment complex, where residents objected to the alleged presence of goats within the society premises.

VHP leader alleges illegal entry of goats

Vishwa Hindu Parishad coordinator Harsh Singh claimed that nearly 40 to 50 goats had been brought into the housing complex.

Speaking to ANI, Singh alleged that the animals were causing inconvenience to residents, particularly senior citizens, and raised concerns over hygiene and breathing related issues.

He further claimed that the municipal authorities had not granted permission for the goats to be housed there and alleged that the animals were brought into the society illegally.

FIR filed after alleged attack

Harsh Singh also alleged that he was attacked during the confrontation and suffered injuries to his hand after being assaulted with a knife.

He said an FIR had been registered at the police station but expressed dissatisfaction over the charges included in the complaint.

According to Singh, the VHP is demanding that police invoke Section 307 related to attempt to murder against the accused.

Dispute intensified after shed removal

The situation reportedly escalated on Monday night when a scuffle broke out between members of the two communities over the alleged illegal goat enclosure inside the society.

Following complaints raised by Hindu residents, municipal authorities reportedly demolished the temporary shed built for the animals on Tuesday afternoon.

However, tensions flared again when members of the Muslim community allegedly attempted to rebuild the structure, triggering fresh protests both inside and outside the residential complex.

Heavy police deployment at site

Police personnel were deployed in large numbers to control the situation and prevent further escalation.

Officials worked to disperse the crowd and restore calm in the area as tempers remained high through the day.

Following the clashes, the goats were eventually removed from the apartment complex, according to reports.
