According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s report released in December 2023, his death resulted from “acute effects” of ketamine, leading to unconsciousness and drowning in his Los Angeles home’s hot tub.

His passing sparked global mourning among fans and fellow actors, highlighting both his comedic genius and his open struggles with addiction, which he detailed in his memoir “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.”
