Spotify has restructured its subscription offerings in India with three distinct Premium plans, introducing lossless audio streaming for the first time while implementing higher prices for advanced features.

Spotify New Plan Structure

Premium Lite (₹139/month): Covers basics with ad-free listening at 160kbps audio quality but excludes offline downloads. Previously, the Individual Premium plan cost the same but included more features, including offline streaming.

Premium Standard (₹199/month): Restores offline listening with 320kbps audio quality, effectively raising the previous base plan’s price. The Student plan with similar benefits now costs ₹99 monthly, up from ₹69 previously.

Premium Platinum (₹299/month): The most notable addition more than doubles the old individual plan’s price but introduces several firsts for Indian subscribers:

  • Lossless audio streaming
  • Spotify’s AI DJ, which curates playlists and provides song introductions and commentary
  • AI-powered playlist creation
  • Compatibility with DJ software including rekordbox and Serato
  • Support for up to two additional household members with separate accounts

This makes Platinum India’s most expensive Spotify plan.

Family Plan Context

The Platinum tier’s family convenience approach contrasts with the previous dedicated Spotify Family plan supporting up to six accounts at ₹229 monthly, without lossless audio and new AI features.

Availability

The new plans are available only to new users in select markets: India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and UAE. Current subscribers will not be affected by price changes unless they choose to upgrade, according to Spotify.

Recent Price History

Spotify increased prices in various regions, including India, just months ago. The new Premium plans effectively implement another price hike while adding features.

Market Positioning

The restructuring positions Spotify more competitively against streaming platforms offering lossless audio and family sharing, though at higher price points. The tiered approach allows users to select plans matching their priorities—from basic ad-free listening to high-quality lossless audio with AI features.

The changes reflect global streaming trends toward differentiated service tiers, with premium features commanding higher subscription costs as platforms seek to monetize advanced audio technology and artificial intelligence capabilities.
